Low-price RAW video cameras
Blackmagic is one of the first camera companies to bring RAW video to the consumer market with their very own Blackmagic RAW format. This is a revolutionary step towards the Filmmaking world, especially for color grading.
We absolutely praise Blackmagic for doing this! RAW video opens up a much wider range of options in the color grading space.
What is RAW video?
If you're not familiar with RAW, it's essentially a video file, but with more valuable data included. The file itself stores all digital data inside from when you were shooting, so it can be altered afterwards.
The data stored includes settings such as:
- White Balance
- ISO
- Exposure
- And more
Of course you cannot change properties such as the shutter speed and iris, as they are mechanical elements within the camera and not digital.
You may be familiar with RAW from using a DSLR camera. Have you tried editing a standard JPEG then editing a RAW file? You can push the colors so much more with a RAW file because of the color depth and data included. With color grading, this is crucial whether you are using photos or video.
DaVinci Resolve Software
Another powerful product from Blackmagic Design is DaVinci Resolve. One of the most powerful and best color grading programs for video editing on this planet.
DaVinci Resolve is incredible and it's used heavily in the professional industry. Many films or series on your favourite streaming services or in your local cinema were probably color graded in DaVinci Resolve!
