Canon is the one of the most reputable & prominent camera brands in the world (mainly for Photography), let's face it. Their color science is brilliant and they have had many revolutionary cameras taking the world by storm.
Canon are most well known in the Filmmaking world for the release of their 5D on August 22nd, 2005. They introduced video recording on a full frame DSLR. Nearly all consumer video cameras were in a very specific style with a built in lens and they would only use a small sensor to pack all the power they had in the small bodies. But what comes with a small sensor and a built-in lens, is hardly any depth of field and limited manual controls on your lens.
When Canon introduced the 5D with video, this opened up a whole new world to Filmmakers to access full frame and having a beautiful depth of field that most photography cameras could achieve, but no consumer video cameras could. The 5D became one of the most popular video cameras since it was released, because it allowed users to achieve a much more movie like video and with the ability to change lenses, manual controls etc.
Canon's C-Log Color Space
So Canon have their own Log color space called Canon C-Log. If you aren't aware of what Log is, then in simple terms, Log is a color profile that allows the cameras sensor to capture a higher dynamic range of light. This means you will not lose as much detail in the dark shadows and bright highlights.
The only issue that comes with using Log profile is, that you have to color correct it afterwards because it looks very flat and desaturated (it gives the appearance of being close to black and white). The color is there in the video but you need to bring it back. So when someone really wants color grading and get the most out of their camera, they will need to spend a lot more time in the edit suite to make the colors look good again.
